Agroecology- The Social Movement That Can End World Hunger

The World’s Hunger statics are awful, as they show that a person dies of hunger every 4 to 10 seconds and one in every nine people goes to sleep hungry every night. Many factors have been attributed to these shocking statistics such as; politics, governments, wars, religious conflicts, etc.

In this post we will discuss some of the many issues related to world hunger, and the food policies that fail to address the main causes for it.

It has been found that the modern industrial agricultural methods are unable to feed the world population, because its impacts are going beyond the environmental and ecological crises associated with land, water, and resource accessibility. Moreover, the industrial agriculture also takes a big share of the subsidies and research funds.

To end global hunger, the world’s agriculture needs a new direction and that is ‘Agroecology’.

Agroecology is the agricultural method based on less resource-oriented conventional methods, which work in coordination with communities as well.

Agroecology can help a great deal in meeting the growing need of food within environmentally supportable procedures. This method is considered to have the capability to change the world’s society and build a food-secure future.

Agroecology is very important when it comes to addressing global starvation and giving communities access to fundamental resources such as: land, water, and seeds.

Many social movement leaders are working very hard to raise awareness about Agroecology and its benefits around the globe. Today Agroecology is considered as a social movement, and not just a social science.

As individuals, we may feel helpless, but there are world hunger organizations that are putting lots of time and work to ensure that nobody goes to sleep hungry.

All of us can help these organizations in finding a permanent solution to this serious problem and help them to end world hunger.
